Job Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician I provides excellent patient care from basic eye health to surgical interventions. The technicians assist the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. Our technicians are responsible for managing patients based on the appointment types, triage phone calls, performing testing and imaging as needed, ensuring exam rooms are prepped, and other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
- Pre-examination of patients for all specialties across all sites. Assist physicians with in-office procedures such as lasers, intra-vitreal injections, and minor procedures.
- Greet patients and visitors (ensure patients have completed screening process and appropriate equipment upon arrival). Call triage of patient matters such as post-operative concerns, prescription refill requests and medical questions.
- Responsible for patient histories, visual acuity assessment and manual refractions, anterior segment examination, applanation tonometry, pupil evaluation, confrontation field, and Amsler grid testing.
- Perform basic diagnostic testing such as visual fields, specular microscopy, IOL master/Immersion A-scans, Atlas/Pentacam, pneumatonometry, and OCT.
- Accurate documentation and reconciliation of drug logs to ensure proper inventory.
- Responsible for the sterilization and calibration of instruments.
- Maintain accurate and legible documentation of patient records.
- Communicate with patients and practice team members through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- High School or equivalent reqruied.
- A minimum of 6 months of ophthalmology experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Understanding of medical terminology or scribing.
- Must have excellent communication skills, organizational skills, high energy level, highly developed interpersonal skills, and ability to actively handle patients who may in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, including but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Email systems, etc.
- Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting.
- CPR certified preferred.
- Prior EMR experience preferred.
- Experience in ophthalmic care in one or more of the following imaging modalities: Visual field testing, Optical coherence tomography, Fundus photography, Corneal topography, Ophthalmic work-up technical skills (patient history, visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pupillary testing, and dilation), Study certification for clinical trials, A-Scans, Scribing preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $24.04 - $29.64
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
