The 61st Street Service Corporation, provides administrative and clinical support staff for ColumbiaDoctors. This position will support ColumbiaDoctors, one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Northeast. ColumbiaDoctors’ practices comprise an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.

Job Summary:

The Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing recorded medical dictation into written form. In the Dermatopathology Laboratory, the job entails listening to physician dictated material in one computer program and typing it into another. The incumbent is responsible for proofreading the information entered at accessioning and logging phase as well as recognizing and confirming inadvertent physician errors. An extremely high-volume Laboratory, speed and accuracy are essential, as referring physicians expect biopsy results within a 24-48 hour turnaround time. The incumbent, though not patient-facing, is part of a team that delivers an exceptional patient experience through ensuring patient's insurances are correctly billed and ensuring biopsy report accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Type reports, addendums, corrections & outgoing consult letters dictated by Pathologists
    • Confirm accurate entry of diagnosis, microscopic descriptions and any requested special stains, as well as second opinion report
    • After Pathologists review initial transcription, type any handwritten corrections as indicated by Pathologist
    • Add titles and subtitles accordingly
    • Change Billing CPT code to reflect consultation report
    • Confirm accurate entry of patient information on letter
    • Revise letter as per Pathologist
    • Print letter on letterhead
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency is required
  • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience
  • Working knowledge/proficiency of Medical Terminology
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills, and the ability to set priorities among multiple competing objectives, tasks and initiatives is required
  • Candidate must be well organized and able to manage a demanding workload and moderately complex cases in an accurate and timely manner
  • Candidate must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs

Hourly Rate Ranges: $23.05 - $34.86

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
