Job Summary:
The Lead Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will serve as a key member of the patient care team in an ambulatory setting. The Lead CMA will work closely with providers across multiple specialties as well as with other clinical and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture of kindness, inclusion, integrity, accountability, and excellence.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
- Prepare patients for their visit including: pre-visit organization of information required for an efficient in-office experience, performing patient escort and rooming functions (taking vital signs, medication. reconciliation, accurate documentation of chief complaint, updating history as requested, updating health maintenance items as requested), providing instructions to patients in a manner that facilitates efficient patient safety and standard operations for the practice. Assists patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc.
- Perform front desk duties including, but not limited to, check-in/out, registration, scheduling appointments and related duties.
- Perform additional check out functions such as scheduling, referrals and additional tasks as needed.
- Perform venipuncture as requested and accurately prepare and label specimens.
- Collect and label nasopharyngeal specimens for testing as trained.
- Perform EKGs and/or spirometry as requested.
- Enter accurate charges into the EHR.
- Assist providers or other clinical staff with in-office procedures as requested.
- Serve as a chaperone in the exam room as requested.
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications as requested.
- Maintain diagnostic equipment, perform QC testing and maintain supporting documentation.
- Perform point of care testing as trained.
- Maintain daily refrigerator/freezer logs, monthly AED log and other QA logs as trained.
- Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
- Assists Supervisor and/or Manager with daily staffing schedules, time off requests, same day absences, etc. Helps to ensure adequate coverage and addresses and related issues as directed.
- Serves as a Preceptor for new and existing staff. Mentors CMAs by sharing knowledge, expertise, and demonstrating Primary Care values.
- Identifies areas for improvement in clinic operations, recommends alternative procedures, actions or sources of information to resolve issues.
- Works collaboratively with front and back end support team and providers to ensure patient satisfaction and protocol standards are met.
- Supports communication of organizational initiatives, changes or other issues as needed. Provides feedback to management on adoption and understanding. Serves as an advocate for team when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- 3 years’ relevant experience including 1 year minimum in a medical assistant role.
- CMA or equivalency required.
- Current BCLS/AED certification required.
- Must demonstrate proficiency of OSHA standards including disposal of biohazard waste.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem solving skills. Ability to perform across multi-disciplinary and/or specialties while maintaining high productivity and a professional and service-oriented demeanor.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population demonstrating tact, respect, and sensitivity.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience of peers, management and other stakeholders. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to deescalate stressful situations.
- Must be an engaged and positive team member demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, punctuality, and adaptability to new and changing situations including helping peers adapt to new situations.
- Strong proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Email systems, etc.
- Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout FPO practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule). Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Associates Degree or additional academic coursework is preferred.
- Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high volume setting preferred.
- Prior EMR experience, EPIC preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $25.25 - $37.02
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
