Job Summary:
The Lead X-Ray Radiology Technologist is an experienced professional who leads and coordinates the operational and administrative functions of mammography imaging services. In this role, the incumbent will lead a collaborative team of technologists by directing staff activities and overseeing quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of X-ray images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the X-ray area.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
- Perform X-rays and general radiological procedures:
- Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
- Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
- Observe patient while in the X-ray area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
- Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
- Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
- Assist radiologist with fluoroscopic studies.
- Assist physician in administering opaque media.
- Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
- Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
- Address any service calls and follow up as required or as directed, based on operational need.
- Train, assign, and delegate work to all technologists as necessary.
- Review staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage on a daily basis.
- Assign or coordinate X-ray technologist coverage/schedule to ensure that coverage is maintained, especially during heavy X-ray demand.
- Support Practice Manager on recruitment, onboarding, performance appraisals, and disciplinary activities for X-ray technologists.
- Manage day-to-day QC activities; delegate process as appropriate for the assigned and/or satellite sites.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as assigned by the Practice Manager.
- Facilitate departmental survey readiness by participating in inspections, ensuring that necessary documents (e.g., QC, physics reports, and service work orders) and staff trainings have been completed, and performing any other duties as directed.
- Oversee the management of the dosimeter badges for all technologist modalities requiring monitoring, make adjustment as needed due to staffing changes, and escalate any concerns to management.
- Participate in radiation safety meetings and patient quality meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including 1-year minimum in a senior or lead technologist role; exposure to a wide range of X-ray studies required.
- NYS License, ARRT certified.
- Current BLS required.
- Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, coordination, delegation, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in continuous improvement or quality initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to teach these skills to other technologists.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
- Prior experience supporting recruitment, training, and performance management for technologists preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $54.81 - $67.50
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
