Job Summary:
The Senior Ultrasound Technologist is an experienced professional with strong collaboration and leadership skills. In this role, the incumbent will support a collaborative team of technologists by providing day-to-day guidance and mentorship and supporting quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving ultrasound images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound area.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
- Perform ultrasounds and general radiological procedures:
- Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
- Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
- Observe patient while in the ultrasound area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
- Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
- Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
- Set up and assist in sonographic core biopsies, FNAs, and hysterosonograms/saline-infused sonograms.
- Independently perform a wide range of sonographic examinations on adult and pediatric patients: abdominal, soft tissue, gynecological, renal, thyroid, scrotal, vascular, and musculoskeletal exams.
- Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
- Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
- Address any service calls and follow up as required or as directed, based on operational need.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new or less experienced technologists. Share knowledge and offers guidance/mentorship to facilitate team collaboration and a supportive environment.
- May assist manager to ensure adequate coverage and address related issues as directed.
- Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care. Bring safety and quality events, concerns and needs to debriefs/safety huddles. Collaborate with team members on quality-related projects.
- Assist manager on Quality Control and Assurance measures, including testing and auditing as appropriate.
- Increase transparency, encourage event reporting, and advance the safety culture by participating in and facilitating safety huddles, patient safety activities, culture reinforcement, and shared learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including exposure to a wide range of ultrasound studies.
- NYS License, ARDMS certified.
- Current BLS required.
- Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated participation in continuous improvement or quality initiatives.
- Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
- Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
- Prior experience supporting training and onboarding activities is preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $54.86 - $63.19
