Certified Medical Assistant #Full Time

Department: Med - Div. of Nephrology
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant will support the Nephrology practice in the Department of Medicine.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet and interact with patients.
  • Check patient in via EPIC; accurately collect, update, and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Collect referrals (as needed) and ensure accuracy of information on referral forms.
  • Perform insurance eligibility and verification as needed.
  • Collection of co-payments/fees and posting of payments to EPIC, daily reconciliation of the cash drawer.
  • Collection and recording Pharmacy information and Meaningful Use data in EPIC.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations for treatments, diagnostic procedures and medication as needed.
  • Schedule follow up appointments with providers and help coordinate follow up care and diagnostic testing.
  • Schedule new patient appointments according to provider participation status
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Accurately scan information into EPIC (including but not limited to insurance card, referrals, registration forms, outside records, etc).
  • Facilitate physician and patient administrative needs.
  • Work as part of the clinical team as needed.
  • Coordinate all clerical aspects of patient flow for clinic day.
  • Manage a smooth clinic flow by assessing and anticipating MD schedule, ensuring any patient results or chart documents are available and assigning clinic space effectively.
  • Ensure examination/consultation/treatment rooms are stocked with requisitions, forms, and medical supplies
  • Assist patient with transport when necessary
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and waiting area.
  • Interview patient, measure vital signs, height and weight, and record information in EPIC
  • Enter medication reconciliation and refill requests into EPIC for MD verification.
  • Complete medication reconciliation and/or test requisitions and place order in EPIC at direction of provider.
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and urinalysis
  • Collect, label, and send specimens to proper areas of the hospital.
  • Maintain accurate records of office and physician locations. Facilitate patient appointments and experience.
  • Provide cross coverage as needed
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant training program required.
  • Clinical Medical Assistant certification required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical office equipment, systems and procedures.
  • Maintain cooperative and professional relationship with providers, patients, other departmental staff, and coworkers.
  • Ability to work with patients and make them feel comfortable.
  • Ability to adjust daily to different services and medical office staff needs, process and clinical flow.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to improve overall office operations.
  • Ability to prioritize skill assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, assignments, and pressures of deadlines, competitive requirements and/or a heavy workload.
  • Ability to work flexible hours/days
  • One year of experience in an outpatient medical office environment preferred.
  • College education or trade school preferred.
  • Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $21.00 - $33.17

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
