Perinatal Sonographer #Per Diem

Department: Ob/Gyn - MFM HIP 4 ULT
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary:

The Perinatal Sonographer will work in a collaborative environment to provide superior patient care. As a member of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine sonography team, the incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of ultrasound images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound area. Successful candidates will have a solid foundation in sonography, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an interest in furthering their sonography skillset in a Maternal-Fetal Medicine setting.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, and all faculty and staff manner.
  • Perform confidential ultrasonography examinations:
    • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the physician.
    • Independently perform gynecological, first trimester, fetal growth, and biophysical ultrasound examinations.
    • Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
    • Observe patient while in the ultrasound area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
    • Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
    • Localize and recognize difference between healthy and pathological areas.
    • Integrate diagnostic sonogram with patients’ history, medical records, and laboratory results, and adapt exam accordingly.
    • Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to physician for interpretation. Present and prepare preliminary ultrasound findings to attending physician for final report.
    • Maintain log of ultrasound test findings.
    • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate. Prepare patient for testing.
    • Ensure proper operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and reporting equipment failures. Participate in inspections as requested.
    • Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records. Consistently and accurately complete documentation pertinent to the ultrasound examinations.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Communicate with practice operations staff about services rendered to facilitate appropriate authorizations.
    • Support inspection readiness for the modality as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalency.
  • Completion of accredited diagnostic medical program.
  • ARDMS certified or ARDMS registry eligible. ARDMS eligible graduates from CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education) accredited program must be registered in OB/GYN within 18 months of employment. Must maintain ARDMS credentials annually.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment efficiently, evaluate sonogram to acquire diagnostic information, and communicate diagnostic information to physicians.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal, and emotional intelligence skills, including strong service orientation. Ability to deliver consistently exceptional service while demonstrating tact, respect, and empathy, with both patients and health care team. Ability to deescalate stressful situations.
  • Strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
  • OB/GYN experience preferred.
  • Fetal echo certification a plus.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $43.21 - $52.46

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
