Lead Certified Medical Assistant #Full Time

Department: Med - Cardio CHF Transplant
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary:

The Lead Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will serve as a key member of the patient care team in an ambulatory setting. The Lead CMA will work closely with providers across multiple specialties as well as with other clinical and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture of kindness, inclusion, integrity, accountability, and excellence

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and visitors, and answer telephone calls promptly.
  • Prepare patients for their visit including pre-visit organization of information, taking vital signs, and medication reconciliation. Assist patients with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Perform front desk duties including check-in/out, registration, scheduling appointments and related duties.
  • Perform additional check out functions such as scheduling and referrals.
  • Perform venipuncture as requested and prepare/label specimens.
  • Collect and label nasopharyngeal specimens for testing.
  • Perform EKGs and/or spirometry as requested.
  • Enter accurate charges into the EHR.
  • Assist providers or other clinical staff with in-office procedures as requested.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications.
  • Maintain diagnostic equipment, perform QC testing and supporting documentation.
  • Perform point of care testing as trained
  • Maintain daily refrigerator/freezer logs, monthly AED log and other QA logs as trained.
  • Contribute ideas for improving practice workflows to team members, providers, and management.
  • Assist Supervisor and/or Manager with daily staffing schedules, time off requests, same day absences, etc. Ensure adequate coverage and addresses and related issues as directed.
  • Serve as a Preceptor for new and existing staff. Mentor CMAs by sharing knowledge, expertise, and demonstrating Primary Care values.
  • Identify areas for improvement in clinic operations, recommends alternative procedures, actions or sources of information to resolve issues.
  • Work collaboratively with front and back end support team and providers to ensure patient satisfaction and protocol standards are met.
  • Support communication of organizational initiatives, changes or other issues as needed. Provide feedback to management on adoption and understanding. Serve as advocate for team when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalency and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • 3 years’ relevant experience including 1 year minimum in a medical assistant role.
  • CMA or equivalency required.
  • Current BCLS/AED certification required.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout FPO practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule). Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Associate's Degree or additional academic coursework is preferred.
  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high volume setting is preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience, Epic preferred.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $25.25 - $35.58

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
