Certified Medical Assistant/Medical Secretary #Full Time

Department: Neuro - NI 2 Practice
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant will have administrative as well as clinical duties in support of the Department of Neurology practice at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Will work closely with fellow medical assistants and faculty to support a high volume and efficient Neurological practice.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greeting and interacting with patients in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Check patients using EMR, collecting, updating, and verifying patient demographic and insurance information in the practice management system and/or patient's chart.
  • Collecting referrals and ensuring accuracy on referral forms.
  • Collection and recording of Pharmacy information
  • Obtaining insurance pre-authorizations for treatments and diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • Accurately scanning information into EMR (including but not limited to an insurance card, referrals, registration forms, outside records, etc).
  • Stock exam/consultation/treatment rooms with requisitions, forms, and medical supplies.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, height, and weight, and records information in EMR.
  • Completes medication reconciliation for all appointments (including video visits) and/or test requisitions and places pending orders in EMR.
  • Collects, labels, and sends all specimens to proper areas of the hospital.
  • Maintains accurate records of office and physician locations.
  • Checking messages and following up with patients (including reminder phone calls for in-person and video visit appointments).
  • Faxing medical records to requesting facilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to work flexible hours/days.
  • High School Diploma is required or the equivalent in education, training, and experience.
  • NYS CMA (AAMA) Certification required; phlebotomy certificate required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience working in a physician practice scheduling appointments and working with medical records.
  • Possess knowledge of modern medical office equipment, systems, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and takes initiative to improve overall office operations.
  • Excellent communication/customer service
  • Ability to adjust daily to different services and medical staff needs process, and clinic flow
  • Knowledge of Epic preferred
  • Bilingual Verbal Fluency in Spanish and English a plus.

Hourly Rate Range: $21.00 - $33.17

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
