Job Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will serve as a key member of the patient care team in an ambulatory setting. This position will work closely with providers across multiple specialties as well as with other clinical and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture in alignment with our values of Service-Oriented, Trust, Empathy, Safety, Inclusion, and Communication.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
  • Prepare patients for their visit including:
    • Pre-visit organization of information required for an efficient in-office experience, performing patient escort and rooming functions (taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, accurate documentation of chief complaint, updating history as requested, updating EMR (Epic) as required).
    • Assisting patients as needed with walking, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Serving as a chaperone in the exam room as requested.
    • Assisting physicians with examinations, procedures, and department-specific therapies that does not require medical judgement or decision making.
    • Entering orders in Epic as required.
    • Notifying physicians and nurses of emergencies and performing first aid.
    • May remove sutures or staples under the supervision of a physician or other appropriately licensed person, provided that the patient is evaluated, at a minimum, immediately before the procedure by an appropriately licensed professional.
    • Open sterile packages, under the continuous and direct supervision of an appropriately licensed and credentialed individual.
    • Attach/remove Holter recorders and mobile cardiac monitors on inpatients and outpatients.
    • Attach/detach Cardiac Patches and Telemetry devices; conduct patient education accordingly.
  • CMAs cannot perform:
    • Set up or manipulate any sterile field.
    • Perform pre-procedural preparation/disinfection (setting up a sterile field).
  • Perform additional specialty-specific duties as assigned and based on clinical operation needs.
  • Set up patient examination rooms, responsible for cleaning and organization between patient visits.
  • Responsible for Holter monitor data uploads and exports.
  • Utilize EMR system (EPIC) to input clinical data and perform all end of exam activities for each visit.
  • Enroll patients and monitor various reports, data, and patient activities on vendor websites.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of assigned Work Queues in Epic; schedule patient appointments from the Referral work queue and link the referral; coordinate with patient to obtain all necessary insurance and registration information to update in Epic.
  • Work closely with the Insurance Authorization team and front desk coordinator on daily schedule reconciliation.
  • Responsible for answering incoming calls and triage appropriately; check all messages and return calls or relay accordingly.
  • Responsible for notifying Program Manager and/or referring provider of any critical EKG alerts.
  • Perform general office duties such as e-mails, technician schedule, printing, faxing, scanning, and uploading reports into the EMR.
  • Conform to all applicable HIPAA and billing compliance and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Must understand patient confidentiality and complete all assigned trainings.
  • Responsible for equipment sterilization and maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies; submit supply order requests as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalency and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • CMA must be certified by a credentialing body.
  • Current BCLS/AED certification required.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform across multi- disciplinary and/or specialties while maintaining high productivity and a professional and service- oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner while appreciating the unique contributions of an inclusive workforce that brings together the talents of people across multiple identities.
  • Strong commitment to fostering diversity and equity.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.

  • Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
  • Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
  • Associate degree or additional academic coursework preferred.
  • Previous medical assisting experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
  • Proficiency with OSHA standards including disposal of biohazard waste preferred.
  • Multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience, Epic preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking preferred.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $24.52 - $33.84

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
